It's 3am and footsteps can be heard echoing across the upstairs landing. A chill seeps into the room as a long dark shadow uncurls across the staircase, reaching out into the inky black darkness.
If this was a scene from a Hollywood movie, Ghostbusters would only be a short call away.
But for the many residents of Jumeirah 2 and 3, this everyday reality spins a spooky yarn of its own.
Over the last one year, cases of ghostly sightings and eerie and unexplained happenings have surfaced across residents of villas across the district.

The Jumeirah 2 neighbourhood, behind Choithrams supermarket in particular, has given several families sleepless nights.

Kate Naomi, a former Jumeirah resident wrote on the Expatwoman.com forum: "I consider myself a non-believer. But we moved into a house in Jumeirah, quite an old house actually, and all kinds of strange things started to happen. We tried to think up rational explanations but couldn't seem to find any.

"There were a number of incidents - a plate sliding across the table on its own (heavy china one), there was nothing near it and the table was not wet. The gas cooker kept turning on; my sons toys kept activating themselves (remote control car driving round when no one is near the controller)."

If that wasn't enough to give people the willies, she added: "My husband who is a complete non-believer told me he saw someone sitting on the stairs, a woman, and both of us have seen a small boy several times... It has happened in front of others too with my best friend sprinting for the door and wouldn't come round after she witnessed some strange goings on. [sic]."
Kate went on to state that she later learned that no tenant has stayed in the house longer than six months.
Since her posts began, the family has moved homes and are relieved that incidents have not followed them into their new residence.
Kate's experiences are not isolated. Another Jumeirah resident, Kitty, has also narrated similar experiences, saying: "We are living in Jumeirah three near Choithrams and also have odd things happening. The kitchen tap starts running around 10pm. I can hear footsteps upstairs when I know the kids are asleep. I also get the feeling that I am being watched and then the dog starts barking always in the same place where I feel the watching is coming from. Thankfully it does not seem to be a threatening presence."

Another Expatforum poster, Wrinkly has a similar story to tell. "We live behind Safa Park and for the past six years have been having this 'uneasy' feeling in the house.

"My friend and her daughter came to visit and the daughter told us she saw a shadow in the house and a woman's figure. Our neighbours never stay longer than a year and the people previously in our house also just stayed for a year and the people before them... I don't know if it's just my imagination going wild or there might be something more

A former burial site?

Stories have long since circulated over the Dubai grapevine that the Jumeirah district was once a burial ground for tribes over a century ago.

Kate is a firm believer in that, saying: "I know for a fact that there are a few old burial grounds in Jumeirah; I am pretty sure my house was located on one."

Sophie, who is also a Jumeirah resident took to the online forum to talk about her maid complaining of seeing spirits, which soon propelled into a state of spooky incidences.
She wrote: "My daughter started with these stories of "friends" telling her "secrets" so I just chalked it up to imaginary friends, although she said one of them was "scaryman" and that has been a whole discussion with her. I am overly cautious with her TV to the point that there is no cable connection in the playroom..."
But when Sophie's maid started to complain that spirits were haunting the house, all rationality went on pause mode.

"My villa is over 20 years old and the house next door is empty a lot and in the past five years has had a few different families," she said. "But I also know that parts of Jumeirah are on top of old archaeological sites."

You Don't Even Need So Many E-mail Accounts!

I am just simply baffled by whoever in Pemandu was proposing that every Malaysian gets an e-mail account although most of them are already tech-savvy and have their own e-mail accounts. My first impression is that those buggers there didn't think deep and instead it is merely a dangling carrot and a mileage for political support.

Many people have asked the question of who is this company Tricubes. Apart from the knowledge that they develop the MyKad reader that are used by many government departments, they are in a very precarious financial position such as Bursa Malaysia can delist them in the space of six months of so.

Pitching this idea also brings back of the illogical explanation of not having automated registration of voters. It simply defies logic really. Actually the approach is that you straight away register the voters automatically, and then if the person who wants to vote in the area of choosing which does not match with the one in the database, they just have to go to the Election Commission office. It is far better in that way rather with those many excuses that prop out from the commissioner's mouth or so.

RM 50 million of people's money on this project is a waste. It could have been done to expand the broadband penetration in Malaysia. They can do it in Sarawak now that the BN government manage to defend it in the state elections. If they don't, don't you think that it counts as a violation of promises? But the rate still remains slow, no large thanks to Telekom's monopoly over the wires they have to increase broadband, coupled with high monthly fees.

Even without the proposal above, I always have a hard time when communicating with government departments as they keep redirecting my calls to other departments here and there. It's pretty hard when they can't even understand what I wish to convey although I speak to them in Malay! Then what's the point of having this kind of stupid idea? Bailout Tricubes?

A third said: "It's astonishing how the gov is able to frequently come out with nonsensical plans to waste our money. Malaysia Boleh!!"

I am also very much against privacy so, it is always a concern where you can be contacted without consent in regards of e-mail. If you remember being one of those that receive SMSes or e-mail greetings from Najib (the former in particular) without your knowledge, know that your privacy is at the risk of being used by third-parties with no consent.

At least a person has an e-mail account, and Gmail's space that increases exponentially for each user means they can be stored as long as you want, so why need more e-mail accounts to juggle for anyway? Nothing better to do huh?

Guan Eng asked MCA to walk the talk

Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng has challenged MCA to walk the talk. He said, "Ask their sole MCA assemblyman in Negeri Sembilan and Perak to resign."

CM Lim was referring to MCA President Chua Soi Lek's remarks that if one has been rejected by voters, they should not go into cabinet.

"If you can talk so big, can you act so big? Can you walk the talk?" Guan Eng asked. He said this is the reason why voters reject parties like MCA and SUPP because they do not fulfill their promises. It is not a question about race, it is a question about performance, Lim added.

Lim was at the Island Hospital for the launch of Liver Week 2011.

Safest Sex in No Sex....especially for mosquitoes

You know how people like to say things like, "People who don't know how to use the public toilet should not be allowed to breed" ? You and I know that toilets in Malaysia not only is a perennial, but also a peri-anal problem, so not allowing these species to breed sounds quite logical. Scientists however, have not come up with ways to covertly make this happen to humans without them volunteering...yet... but the same cannot be said to the mosquito species.

Humans may suffer from narcissism and should be renamed megalomaniac-sapiens, claiming that we are the superior species ever to walk on the surface of the earth, but mosquitoes have long proven that they are more superior in a sense that they are more potent than our weapon of mass destruction, (which i reckon how Bush is passing his retirement time looking for) in killing the human species and not softly too. Bearing detrimental diseases such as dengue, yellow fever and malaria, humans have been terminated by the dozens.

Just like the Irish and Bhai jokes, we make jokes pertaining to these blood suckers. Here's one:

"What is the difference between a mosquito with a briefcase and a lawyer? Answer: the briefcase".

So okay, that one was more for the lawyers, but you get what i mean. On hindsight, we doctors are blood suckers too. We draw blood from patients and the actual blood sucking takes place when we start charging. But make no mistake about it, these species that we deem pests can take away our loved ones.

Science have moved on beyond mosquito coils, Baygon sprays and mosquito netting etc. Science have managed to come up with alternative methods to somehow curb mosquitoes from breeding.
Yes, while the Muslims are busy using our pseudo-creativity on ways to terminate human beings via orthodox methods used in stone ages, for example stoning adulterers to death (well, can't blame them for the lack of creativity to think outside the box...there were ample stones...just sitting there begging to be disposed..... ), the infidels are blessed with the freedom from mental curbing and have the liberty to actually use the god gifted brains to research on more useful things like how to kill mosquitoes who kill humans. Now, if THAT is not HUMANity, tell me what else is.

Basically amongst the ongoing experiments are :

1. Scientist looking for methods to intercept mosquito's' foreplay. How rude is that?

Do you know that mosquitoes make music to a specific synchronized note as part of their foreplay? I didn't know either. These mosquitoes literally make music with their wings, in synchrony to that of their sexual partners , a way for them asking, "Hey baybee, your place or mine? And I thought they were just being annoying. Perhaps the Singaporean government may benefit from observing the mosquitoes sexual habits and learn how to utilize music as part of their governmental initiative to increase their population. Something else noteworthy - the next time you hear your dog howling for no apparent reason, it's probably because they hear the musical foreplay of the sound of mosquitoes trying to bunk each other, and got horny too.

Also, don't forget to remember that when you break the mosquito's wings, you're actually depriving it of sex too. That is probably why there is a hadith on breaking both wings of insects when it falls into the water, to okay the drinking whilst the insect with both broken wings is still within it. This is to not just ensure, but double ensure that we are drinking pure/suci (from any form of sexual activities) water. Otherwise, I cannot for the life of me think of any other sound reason for this habit. I also cannot help but wonder how the tone deaf mosquitoes have sex though..questions...questions. So now, scientists are looking for ways to somehow de-synchronize the harmony of the mating tune, to what we Malaysians call, "potong steam". Well, I've always said that "The safest sex is no sex. That is why sex after marriage is safe, because the couple hardly have sex after marriage", but of course this is but another topic that does not concern the mosquitoes.

This experiment is on going. I can imagine the scientists working on how to throw off these mosquitoes' wing music, albeit I have a suggestion...perhaps THIS VIDEO may help these scientist?...talk about loony tunes eh... "This will allow us to release 'sexy' transgenic or sterilized males that will be able to successfully compete with wild populations."

.... well, at least we know that within the mosquito world, size does not seem to matter....

To conclude, since Jakim, Jais dan kawasan kawasan yang sewaktu dengannya have almost always been intrigued by sex, I suggest that instead of wasting tax payers' money hounding the couples on Valentine's Day, why not spend some money studying sex amongst mosquitoes. Who knows, someday they may well live up to their pay by finally serving humanity by doing what they best do, prohibiting sex that has no certification.

2. Scientist who have already established a method to encourage female mosquitoes to have sex with sterile (genetically modified) mosquitoes instead of the fertile wild male mosquitoes. In fact thousands of GM mosquitoes were released somewhere in Grand Caymen Islands somewhere in the Caribbean (sterile sex in the Caribbeans..and a smoke afterwords) and they have managed to decrease the Aedes Aegypti population by 80%. Hmm...remind me why this reminds me of Singapore again? You can read it the article in April issue of Scientific America titled Outsmarting Dengue Fever.

Using Biological Control, Scott O'Neill of University of Queensland and his colleagues have been trying to curb the breeding of dengue by genetically modifying male Aedes mosquitoes making them sterile. (and by sterile, I do not mean dipping these male mosquitoes into a bowl of spirit, although if by "spirit" we mean tapai-like substances, then perhaps I have just found a more interesting experiment on mosquitoes which I would like to call "Mojito-ed Mosquito"). An excerpt from "Outsmarting Dengue Fever" :

"In December, British biotechnology company Oxitec released 6000 genetically modified male mosquitoes in Malaysia to the alarm of some groups that expressed concern about the possible effects of GM insects on humans and ecosystems. Results are not available yet"

Finally, Malaysia gets to be mention in an international magazine pertaining to sexual issues that is not embarrassing it's citizens. Thank god mosquitoes don't use mattresses, or Omega watches not to mention carrying around with them the registration cards. The "groups expressing concern about the effects of GM insects on humans and ecosystems" would probably be amongst a few; Perkasa, Hindraf , BN, and probably PAS (with it's 'propagating forth to Islamize the world via hereditary program ergo causing ecosystem imbalance ) only because they probably don't appreciate other species pissing on their trees.

In Malaysia, the results for the same experiment in Malaysia is pending though. Being a Malaysian and cannot help but be infected by irony and pessimism. I suspect the cause of delay may be confusion amongst the scientists as they may have yielded the right results although not up to expectations, but through a process not clearly understood, leaving the scientists bewildered ergo the delay in announcing the results. This is because the tendency of male of any species, to turn bisexual in Malaysia is higher, especially if he is a politician and when the time is close to any form of election. So instead of having sex with the untampered female Aedes Aegypti, these GM (genetically modified) male species would probably turn bisexual and also have sex amongst themselves if not with the "wild male" species who before their encounter with these GM, never knew that they were bisexuals/gays, depriving the female mosquitoes of frequency of sex, but not decreasing chances in pregnancy each time they have sex. In short, these female species would be left to wonder "wtf?"...Love Hurts I guess..

Of coz there are ecological balancing issues that need to be studied and addressed when we introduce a genetically tampered species into the ecosystem or when we cause extinction of certain species. Funny how this discussion do not arise when the humans kill our own species in the name of God, genetic material which was believed to be more superior than the rest, race , political ideology etc. Or funny when we humans breed and breed and breed into the ecosystem in order to take advantage of democracy. Aren't these disrupting the ecosystem? We only care for our species when they are dead,not so much when they are alive, how ironic is that?

Yayasan Selangor Properties atau YS Properties telah menandatangani perjanjian usaha sama dengan TNB Engineering Corporation Sdn Bhd pada 31 Disember 1999 untuk menguruskan tanah Lesen Menduduki Sementara (TOL) di seksyen 26 Petaling Jaya untuk dijadikan tempat letak kereta.Tempoh perjanjian untuk penyewaan ini adalah selama 10 tahun dan telah tamat pada 31 Disember 2009 ketika era pemerintahan PKR aka Khalid Gagap. Untuk pengetahuan tanah ini berkeluasan 7334 meter persegi yang boleh menempatkan 270 petak letak kereta.

Pada tahun 2009, jumlah kutipan kasar keseluruhan adalah sebanyak RM1,953,316. Yayasan Selangor memperolehi 34% dari kutipan tersebut sebanyak RM666,862.18. Baki 66% sebanyak RM1,286,454 adalah menjadi hak milik TNB Engineering. Rekod kutipan kasar setiap bulan sepanjang tahun 2009 adalah seperti berikut

Q: Why do Christians use the word 'Allah' in their Malay language Bible and not 'Tuhan'?

A: It is because Christians, Jews and Muslims worship the same God as the God of Abraham.
Before we all get confused, it is necessary to point out at the outset that the word which is spelt 'Allah' is an English word because it is written in English.

The word which bears the same spelling in the National Language is a copy of that word which was first spelt in English in the sixteenth century. The English word 'Allah' is the phonetic spelling of the Arabic word for God.

We all know that the Malay word for god is tuhan. We also know that the God of the Muslims is Allah which is actually what this word sounds like in Arabic.

Since most of us do not read or write Arabic, we tend to take the phonetic spelling of the Arabic word for God as used in English dictionaries.

However, from the point of view of Christians, Christians worship the same God as Muslims do. The God of Christians and the God of Muslims is the same God as the God of Abraham.
So that if you are a Christian, the choice of using the word 'Allah' in their Malay language Bible is obvious since Christians also worship Allah which is the Malay language equivalent, since Malay uses the same English phonetic spelling – of the God of Muslims. In this country to be Malay is to be a Muslim.

Christians will not use the word 'God' in their Malay language Bible because God is an English word and therefore it is an inappropriate word if it is used in a Malay language Bible.

In a Malay language Bible only Malay words should be used. But 'tuhan', although it is a Malay word for god, is not an appropriate word to use in the context and sense of the Bible.

Christians who use Malay in their Bible will never use 'tuhan' for their God because 'tuhan' is other people's god; it is not the God intended in the Bible.

Just as Malay Muslims will never use 'tuhan' for their God even though it is a Malay word for god because their God as well as the Christians' God is the same God that Abraham (Ibrahim) worshipped – no one really knows exactly when Abraham lived – a traditional view is 1750 to 1500 BC.

Here is an example why 'tuhan' is unsuitable to Muslims and Christians. Taoism is common among the Chinese – not all Chinese because there are also Chinese Christians and Chinese Muslims – indeed there are more Chinese Muslims in China then the entire population of Muslims in Malaysia and Indonesia combined.

In China a Chinese Bible is written in Mandarin and 'Allah' is written in Chinese phonetic characters to represent the sound of the Arabic word.

A Taoist worships many gods both in heaven and in hell – I always think it is because the Chinese people want to play it safe, because either way they have appeased the deities.
I don't think any Christian or Muslim who uses Malay would worship tuhan even if you say tuhan is a Malay word for god! This is because they only worship their own God who was the God of Abraham (Ibrahim).

In the English Bible the name for God in Christianity is spelt with a capital G to mean the only God.

'Allah' is Arabic for God. Monotheism is the belief that there is only one god. In today's world, the reality is only Jews, Christians and Muslims worship only one god who was the God of Abraham.

The Muslim God is spelt in any English dictionary as 'Allah' since the sixteenth century and it means 'the name of God among Muslims'.

In Malaysia it is also spelt exactly the same way as the English spelling when the National Language came into being after Merdeka. Both languages use Roman letters in their alphabet.

Pejabat PAS Pahang diceroboh

TEMERLOH, 19 April: Pejabat Perhubungan PAS Pahang di Jalan Dato' Bahaman, di sini telah diceroboh masuk kelmarin sehingga menyebabkan kehilangan barang-barang strategik dipercayai untuk mencuri maklumat.

Setiausaha Badan Perhubungan PAS Pahang, Roslan Zainal, berkata dalam insiden tersebut sebuah komputer riba, tiga LCD, sebuah external hard disk, berpuluh pen drive dan wang tunai telah hilang.

Katanya, pencerobohan hanya disedari oleh staf pada sebelah pagi hari Ahad apabila empat keping atap genting dan sekeping siling berukuran 4 x 4 kaki ditingkat tiga didapati pecah sementara ruangan pentadbiran pejabat berselerakan.

"Penceroboh dipercayai terdiri daripada beberapa orang dan berdasarkan kesan mereka memecah masuk untuk mencuri maklumat strategik. Jika ini benar ia amat membimbangkan.

"Politik yang sepatutnya berasaskan ilmu dan peradaban telah dicemari kegiatan samseng dan keganasan. Jadi kita harap polis segera menyiasat laporan kecurian ini," katanya.

Roslan juga mengingatkan agar semua pejabat Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (Adun) serta Ahli Parlimen Pakatan Rakyat seluruh Pahang dipertingkatkan ciri-ciri keselamatan dan kawalan termasuk ke atas pimpinan parti di peringkat negeri dan kawasan.

10,000 rakyat Libya lari ke Tunisia

GENEVA: Kira-kira 10,000 rakyat Libya dari kawasan pergunungan barat negara itu memasuki Tunisia dalam tempoh 10 hari lalu, kata Suruhanjaya Tinggi Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu bagi Orang Pelarian (UNHCR), hari ini.

"UNHCR melihat peningkatan angkat pelarian Libya tiba di Tunisia dari wilayah pergunungan barat negara berkenaan," kata jurucakap UNHCR, Andrej Mahecic.

"Seminggu berlaku, kira-kira 6,000 rakyat Libya tiba di kawasan Dehiba, selatan Tunisia. Secara keseluruhan, kita anggarkan kira-kira 10,000 warga Libya menyeberangi kawasan itu dalam tempoh 10 hari," katanya.

Kebanyakan daripada pelarian itu datang dari bandar Nalut, kira-kira 50 kilometer dari sempadan Tunisia. - AFP

Parlimen Singapura dibubar untuk pilihan raya umum ke-14

SINGAPURA 19 April - Kerajaan Singapura hari ini mengumumkan pembubaran Parlimennya, sekali gus membuka jalan untuk Pilihan Raya Umum ke-14 republik itu diadakan.

Menurut kenyataan Pejabat Perdana Menteri hari ini, Presiden Singapura SR Nathan membubarkan Parlimen selepas mendapat nasihat daripada Perdana Menteri Lee Hsien Loong.

Pilihan raya umum itu akan menjadi ujian pertama kepimpinan Perdana Menteri Lee Hsien Loong.

Hsien Loong, anak sulung Perdana Menteri pertama Singapura dan Menteri Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, dilantik ke jawatan itu pada Ogos 2004.

Sebelum ini, beliau menyandang jawatan Timbalan Perdana Menteri sejak 1990.

Writ Pilihan Raya yang dikeluarkan Jabatan Perdana Menteri menyebut bahawa penamaan calon akan diadakan pada 27 April dan pengundian pada 7 Mei.

731 individu bunuh diri sejak 2007

KUALA LUMPUR 19 April - Bagi tempoh tiga tahun sejak 2007, seramai 731 individu dilaporkan telah membunuh diri di negara ini, kata Timbalan Menteri Kesihatan Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin.

Beliau berkata, angka itu membabitkan 545 lelaki dan 186 wanita, manakala Daftar Statistik Bunuh Diri Kebangsaan Malaysia pula menunjukkan 321 kes melibatkan pasangan berkahwin, 29 bercerai, 34 balu dan 298 kes golongan bujang.

"Bunuh diri boleh berlaku akibat beberapa penyebab yang berkait seperti faktor biologi, genetik, psikologi, sosioekonomi, budaya dan persekitaran dengan faktor kemiskinan, tiada pekerjaan, kegagalan akademik, hutang dan putus hubungan romantik juga menyumbang kepada kejadian itu.

"Gangguan bunuh diri atau psikiatri seperti kemurungan, skizofrenia, penyalahgunaan substans dan alkohol dan gangguan personaliti juga boleh mendorong kepada perlakuan bunuh diri," katanya menjawab soalan tambahan Senator Usha Nandhini di Dewan Negara, di sini hari ini. Bagi mengatasi masalah itu, Rosnah berkata kementeriannya melaksanakan beberapa langkah pencegahan dan perawatan awal seperti kempen Promosi Kesihatan Mental dan Advokasi, menerbitkan risalah tentang kesihatan mental dan mewujudkan laman web bagi memberi maklumat kepada orang ramai mengenai gejala tersebut.

The New York Times article last week about the explosion of anorexia and eating disorders in the orthodox community highlights a tragedy that has long been buried. About four years ago I published a column about an eighteen-year-old girl my daughter knew at seminary in Jerusalem who died of anorexia. The seminary denied it was the cause and cited some other illness, even though the girls at the seminary watched her wasting away with the administration seemingly oblivious.

The tragedy is not only the danger posed to religious girls with eating disorders but rather the growth of corrupt values in the orthodox community. The New York Times highlighted how matchmakers are calling about girls and asking what dress size they and their mothers are. What does this have to do with Jewish values? Sure, a man has to be attracted to a woman. But the narrow definition of the body as the only ingredient of attraction is a betrayal of the traditional Jewish definition of feminine beauty.

Time was when a Jewish woman's comeliness was determined holistically and was based on five key components: her body, her mind, her heart, her piety, and her personality. Now, it's been reduced to her dress size. Stick-thin scarecrow-like features are the foremost determinant of attractiveness.

To be sure, being overweight is not healthy. But women who focus only on their bodies to the exclusion of their souls are equally unhealthy. And religious men who have practiced Judaism their whole lives but are blind to a woman's righteousness and virtue, focusing exclusively on her form to the exclusion of her substance, are even more unhealthy.

The crisis in orthodoxy today is the practice of Jewish ritual to the exclusion of Jewish values. And in no area is this more evident then in the increasingly shallow dating values that are betraying our community. King Solomon's ode to the 'Eishes Chayil — Wife of Excellence' that we chant every Friday night risks becoming an empty refrain, with men paying lip service to its central proclamation that 'physical beauty is misleading, but a woman who fears G-d is truly to be praised.'

I would never have thought we orthodox Jews would arrive at a stage where our young men of marriageability have become so one-dimensional that their superficiality and pickyness would begin to literally kill our young women. That their mothers — women themselves — are colluding in this corruption by calling up to ask a girl's dress size in the same breath as asking what her level of Torah observance is doubly tragic.

The New York Times article also cited the immense pressure that orthodox women feel to marry at a very young age and how they feel themselves to be failures if they are in their mid-twenties and not yet married with a few children.

I have long advocated marrying young — for orthodox and secular alike — because it allows a couple to grow up together and solidify their union with life's formative experiences. But this has to be balanced against the desire of the orthodox community to see their young women educated and using their minds and not just their wombs. It's a beautiful thing to see orthodox Jewish seminaries for women bursting at the seams. Jewish women today are being exposed to the great texts of Judaism, from Talmud and Midrash to Halakha and Chassidus. Stern and Touro are graduating orthodox girls with degrees in international relations and public relations, proficient in the sciences and mathematics.

Secular Jews have long dismissed the orthodox attitude toward women as demeaning and misogynistic. They argue that we treat our girls as baby-making machines who belong in the kitchen. But the highly educated orthodox Jewish woman gives the lie to these malicious accusations. Should we be so stupid as to prove them right by making women feel so much pressure to be married by the age of twenty that failure to do itself constitutes failure? Is it not our responsibility to demonstrate that a woman can maximize her fullest intellectual potential alongside having a family and that she need not choose between them.

I am, thank G-d, the proud father of nine children. People often ask me how I have time to do my professional work with a large family. I answer them that only in the modern world have we created this false notion that family is an impediment to achievement. Queen Victoria had nine children but ruled the largest land empire in the history of the world. Rose Kennedy, an accomplished woman in her own right, had nine children and is the matriarch of the greatest political dynasty in American history. The list goes on.

I want my daughters to marry young and to marry virtuous men. I shudder at the idea that after raising them to embody the virtue of the Jewish matriarchs they should meet orthodox Jewish suitors obsessed with their external beauty to the exclusion of their inner G-dly commitment. And if that's the case, could I not have found that in the secular world?

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 April: Dewan Pemuda PAS Wilayah Persekutuan (DPPWP) menyanggah pandangan penganalisis politik, Prof Abdul Aziz Bari di dalam Malaysian Insider yang mengatakan Presiden PAS, Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang sebagai liabiliti kepada komponen Pakatan Rakyat.

Pemangku ketuanya, Herman Samsudeen berkata, jika benar beliau menjadi liabiliti, sudah lama PKR dan DAP memutuskan hubungan dengan PAS.

Selain itu, katanya pandangan Aziz yang asyik mengulang isu kekalahan PAS di Terengganu pada 2004 untuk memalukan Presiden PAS tidak ubah seperti pandangan budak tadika sahaja.

Tambahnya, ia jelas menunjukan kelemahan bacaan politik beliau yang mana, di bawah kepimpinan presiden hari ini, PAS berjaya menguasai dua negeri iaitu Kelantan dan Kedah walaupun gagal menguasai Terengganu pada 2008.

Malah, katanya jumlah kerusi PAS di Parlimen pada 2008, bertambah tiga kali ganda iaitu 24 kerusi dari 7 kerusi pada 2004.

"Sebagai Presiden keupayaan prestasi beliau dilihat berdasarkan keupayaan parti di seluruh negara bukannya di Terengganu sahaja. Dan ianya sudah cukup membuktikan kebangkitan semula kepimpinan PAS di bawah Presiden," ujarnya dalam satu kenyataan.

Tambahnya, tuduhan Aziz yang turut mengatakan bahawa Presiden PAS menjadi punca kegagalan PAS memenangi mana-mana kerusi di Sarawak juga amat dangkal.

"Lainlah jika PAS sebelum ini pernah menang di Sarawak dan kemudiannya kalah semua kerusi dalam pilihan raya baru-baru ini," katanya lagi.

Katanya, pilihan raya Sarawak 2006 menyaksikan PAS bertanding 1 kerusi tetapi kali ini 5 kerusi dan ini satu petanda bahawa Presiden PAS telah berjaya memainkan peranannya di dalam Majlis Mesyuarat Pimpinan Tertinggi Pakatan ketika proses pembahagian kerusi.

Menurutnya, Aziz juga kelihatan agak bingung ketika mendakwa Presiden PAS adalah punca kegagalan 16 September.

"Di tadika manakah fakta ini diperolehinya?

"Adakah beliau ada membuat kajian ilmiah tentang hal ini sebagai prof atau sekadar mengantungkan lidah beliau pada hujahan berasaskan persepsi?" soalnya.

Nampaknya, kata beliau Aziz sengaja mengkambinghitamkan Presiden PAS dengan pelbagai tuduhan liar, hanya untuk melampiaskan nafsu amarahnya yang tidak ketahuan punca.

Justeru, DPPWP menasihatkan agar Aziz tidak memalukan golongan ahli akademik yang selama ini bercakap atas fakta dan kajian yang lebih berfakta.

Katanya, jika beliau tiada modal untuk bercakap baik diam sahaja dari terus melalak seperti orang bijak yang kelihatan kurang bijak menggunakan ilmunya.

"DPPWP hari ini cukup berpuashati dan memberikan sokongan penuh kepada Presiden PAS di atas usaha beliau membangkitkan semula keupayaan PAS setelah melalui zaman kekalahan pada 2004," katanya.

Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas hari ini dilantik semula sebagai Yang Dipertua Negeri Pulau Pinang.

Abdul Rahman menerima Surat Cara Pelantikan daripada Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin bagi tempoh dua tahun dalam satu upacara di Bilik Singgahsana Kecil, Istana Negara, di Kuala Lumpur.

Upacara pelantikan itu turut dihadiri Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang, Lim Guan Eng dan Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

Abdul Rahman, 73, yang dilahirkan pada 15 April 1938 di Kampung Permatang Rambai, Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang mula dilantik sebagai Yang Dipertua Negeri Pulau Pinang ketujuh pada 17 April 2001 dan seterusnya dilantik semula untuk memegang jawatan yang sama pada 1 Mei 2005 dan 15 April 2009.

Beliau, yang kini Canselor Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten), berkahwin dengan Toh Puan Majimor Shariff dan dikurniakan empat orang anak.

Abdul Rahman, yang mempunyai ijazah kepujian dalam bidang Kesusasteraan daripada Universiti Malaya (UM) pada 1972, pernah menjadi pemangku Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang selama tiga tahun bermula pada 1982.

Beliau pernah berkhidmat sebagai guru selama 20 tahun sebelum bergiat aktif dalam politik dan telah memenangi kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) kawasan Bertam, Pulau Pinang selama empat penggal pada pilihan raya umum tahun 1978, 1982, 1986 dan 1990.

Abdul Rahman dalam karier politiknya pernah menjadi Setiausaha Jawatankuasa Badan Perhubungan UMNO Pulau Pinang dari 1974 hingga 1988, Anggota Jawatankuasa Pemuda UMNO dari 1976 hingga 1978 dan Timbalan Ketua UMNO Bahagian Kepala Batas pada 1988.

Satu syarikat IT tempatan, Tricubes Bhd akan melaburkan RM50 juta untuk menyediakan akaun e-mel kepada semua warga Malaysia yang berusia 18 tahun ke atas.

Pelaburan bagi Projek Emel 1Malaysia itu adalah bagi menyediakan akaun email kepada semua warga Malaysia untuk urusan rasmi dengan kerajaan.

Perdana menteri Datuk Seri Najib Razak ketika merasmikan projek berkenaan hari ini berkata, emel berkenaan akan membolehkan komunikasi secara langsung dan selamat di antara rakyat dan kerajaan.

Ditanya sekiranya projek berkenaan akan bertembung dengan perkhidmatan dalam talian lain seperti MyEG, Tricubes berkata projek berkenaan berbeza daripada inisiatif sedia ada.

Ketua pegawai eksekutifnya Khairun Zainal Mokhtar berkata, berbeza dengan perkhidmatan bayaran dalam talian MyEG, perkhidmatan melibatkan email baru itu akan melibatkan penghantaran notis dan bil.

Satu keterangan yang diperolehi media berhubung projek berkenaan menyebut, Projek Emel 1Malaysia juga akan menyediakan perkhidmatan untuk menyemak bil dan bayaran.

Khairun berkata, syarikat berkenaan akan memiliki portal dan infrastruktur emel berkenaan sebaik saja ia siap pada Julai.MK/-

Need continuous efforts to overcome racial & religious divide

DAP National Deputy Chairman and MP for Kepong Dr Tan Seng Giaw reiterates the need to have greater efforts to overcome the racial and religious divide which is clearly shown in the Sarawak Elections results.

The Malay/Melanau Muslims tend to go for PBB and the Chinese and some Ibans tend to support Pakatan Rakyat.

On 17.4.2011, Dr Tan comments further on the April 16 poll in Sarawak.

The elctions results show,among others, that PBB won 35 seats, DAP 12 and PKR 3, Despite traditional media being biased towards BN, DAP managed to win 12 out of 15 seats contested. The defeat of Tan Sri Dr George Chan by DAP candidate and Datuk Peter Nyarok by PKR candidate is significant. Sarawak politics is entering a new phase of change.

Despite the Prime Minister calling for 1 Malaysia, the poll results show that Sarawak also has racial and political divide. As Datuk Seri Najib has said that he intends to correct BN's mistakes, it is interesting to see how he proposes to handle this divide.

Those who win have to work harder, including DAP. We have to prove to the people that we are prepared to sacrifice and to serve honestly. How many will misuse their positions for economic gains?

While elected representatives have to fulfill their duties and obligations, all must pay special attention to the religious and racial divide.

"Video: Polis sahkan bukan Anwar"

KUALA LUMPUR: Polis mengesahkan bahawa lelaki di dalam video BUKAN Datuk' Seri Anwar Ibrahim seperti yang didakwa oleh BN dan media milik mereka.

Bernama melaporkan kenyataan Timbalan Pengarah Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah, Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani yang berkata bahawa siasatan mengenai video seks itu telah siap dan siasatan kini menjurus kepada Seksyen 292 Akta Kanun Keseksaan kerana kesalahan mengedar bahan lucah.

"Bagi pihak kami (polis), siasatan telah lengkap dari setiap sudut menjurus kepada Seksyen 292 Akta Kanun Keseksaan (kerana kesalahan mengedar bahan lucah).

"Terpulang kepada Peguam Negara untuk mengambil sebarang tindakan susulan terhadap kes ini dan sekiranya ada mana-mana perkara yang perlu disiasat semula (atas arahan Peguam Negara), kita akan siasatlah," kata Acryl seperti yang dipetik Bernama. Pengedar dan pemilik video lucah itu ialah bekas Ketua Menteri Melaka Tan Sri Rahim Thamby Chik, ahli perniagaan Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah dan Bendahari Perkasa Datuk Shuib Lazim.

Dengan kenyataan ini, polis dengan sendirinya mengesahkan bahawa pelakon dalam video tersebut bukan Anwar.- KeadilanDaily
